PHOTOS: Students Celebrate African American History at Manchester Library

Students from the county's performance academy visited the library on Wednesday

Students from the Ocean County Vocational Technical School's Performing Arts Academy visited of the Ocean County Library to celebrate African American history this week.

The dance teamed performed a skit from "Hairspray," while the choir sang a wide variety of songs from "In Time of Silver," "Lean On Me" and "We Shall Overcome," a song from the civil rights movement in honor of the month-long recognition of the contributions of African Americans.

The theater department performed a play with puppets about bullying, diversity and being different as school-age children. Spiritual, inspiration songs — some based on poetry — and skits based on the struggle for civil rights in America, were also performed.
