Treats for You the Day After, Valentine

There are still places to get some sweet desserts and dinners in the Rumson-Fair Haven area post-Valentine's Day

Feeling a little forlorn about Valentine's Day plans flattened?

There are likely some sweet leftovers and places in the Rumson-Fair Haven area to treat yourself to a feast alone or with a good friend the day after.

Pedaling backwards and starting with the sweets first to go with your morning cup of coffee — that's right, you deserve it — you can take a ride over to Cups & Cakes in Rumson or Tavolo Pronto in Fair Haven. 

As of last night, Tavolo had some prime treats baked by Patty, of course, still quite fresh and tasty: red velvet cupcakes, cake pops, chocolate covered strawberries, among others. Go grab one before they're gone. We did. Yum!

Or you could head over to Cups & Cakes in Rumson. Word has it that there are plenty of good "hearty" (OK, we couldn't resist) sugary delights left over from the holiday and plenty of new treats to be had with that morning brew.

Because a trip to those two spots may send you into a sugar high until the evening, you can skip lunch, or not.

When dinner time hits, though, you can treat your Valentine self to a dinner in the area. Check out the menus at Salt Creek Grille at www.saltcreekgrille.com, where an authentic mesquite wood grill is used to cook up boasted "steaks, chops, chicken, pasta, gourmet salads and house-made desserts made fresh from scratch daily," according to a release.

And, if you're in the mood for some quality Italian food, make a reservation at Ama, at the Driftwood Cabana Club on Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright, where Chef Pat Trama was serving up these dinner delights on Valentine's Day: Cauliflower and Poached Oyster Ragu, Shaved Winter Black Truffle; Baby Burrata with Biellese Coppa, Lucky Tomato, Hot House Basil, Pickled Red Onion; Cold Water Lobster Risotto, Melted Lardo, English Peas, Pecorino Tuscano;  24-Day Dry-Aged Porterhouse (38oz) for Two, Florentine Style, PeeWee Potatoes, Baby Organic Spinach; Whole Roasted American Red Snapper for Two; Tuscan Olive Caponata, Broccoli Rabe, Purple Potatoes; Red Velvet Cake, Mascarpone Cheese Frosting.

And, of course, there's the David Burke Fromagerie in Rumson, where the restaurant's namesake has new signature dishes on the menu, Valentine's Day or not. Here's a sampling of what was served yesterday: Chilled lobster cocktail, lobster soup, rack of lamb, roasted monkfish, lobster steak and surf and turf.
