Because of Sandy, School On MLK Day In Manchester

District says it had to make up for lost days following superstorm

Just as there was school on Veterans Day, there will be school on Martin Luther King Day on Monday.

The Manchester Township School District said it scheduled classes on Monday to meet the required number of days for a school year.

David Trethaway, Manchester's superintendent of schools, said the district plans to provide programs in every school dedicated to the slain civil rights leader's life.

He and other school officials said they believe that having students in school could actually help students "become more aware" of King and his impact.

At Wednesday's Manchester Board of Education meeting, admistrators in all Manchester schools each outlined what could be a full day's worth of projects and programs that teach students - from elementary school on up - about King.
