“The men and women of the 1-150th Aviation Battalion have proven their capabilities and commitment to service both at home and abroad.  Elements of the battalion have served in humanitarian missions and operations in Panama, Iraq, and Kosovo.  Most recently, our region has witnessed the critical support the 1-150th provided during Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.  This new facility will significantly compliment the battalion’s capabilities and enhance their ability to respond to the needs of our state and the nation.  In addition, the facility will also further enhance the existing infrastructure at the Joint Base, strengthening its presence and supporting the missions housed there.”

During his first term in Congress, Representative Runyan, as a member of the House Armed Services Committee supported and helped secure the $49 million in Military Construction funding needed for this critical project for the New Jersey National Guard.  This Fiscal Year 2012 Military Construction funding project was included in both the FY12 National Defense Authorization Act and FY12 Military Construction bills and then signed into law.

The new 103,602 square foot Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) will consolidate all aviation support in one building and will support the 1-150th Assault Helicopter Battalion activities.  The complex will include five aircraft hangar bays, two unheated storage hangar bays, repair and tool room, and administrative and equipment storage areas.   This modern complex will enable the New Jersey Army National Guard’s operational readiness and enable them to continue their record of excellence responding to State and Federal missions.  The complex will serve as a major addition to the infrastructure at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
