Teen Injured in Weekend Pine Lake Park ATV Crash

Emergency responders transported 14-year-old to hospital by helicopter

A teenager was transported by helicopter to an area hospital Saturday night after the all terrain vehicle he was operating collided with a car in the township's Pine Lake Park section.

The male 14-year-old, whose name was not released by police because he is a minor, was driving the ATV eastbound on 6th Avenue at about 10:12 p.m. when he entered the intersection with Beacon Street and struck the passenger side of a Volkswagen, according to a statement issued by Lt. Vincent Manco.

Emergency responders flew the teenager by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for "a head injury and some minor scrapes and cuts," Manco said. He was listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Vokswagen, 21-year-old Daniel Sodan of Toms River, was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured in the crash, according to the lieutenant.

Patrolman Antonio Ellis is investigating the crash, the second last week involving an ATV and car in the township, according to Manco.

"Manchester police would like to remind all ATV riders that state law requires that all ATVs must be registered and insured and that they are prohibited from being operated on public lands and roadways," Manco said.

Manchester police were assisted at the scene by members of Quality Medical Transport, the Manchester and Ridgeway volunteer fire departments, MONOC paramedics and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department Criminalistics Unit, according to Manco.
