Lakehurst: 'A Close-Knit Community'

Luigi Bove from Luigi's Restaurant Lakehurst reminiscing and sending out a request to his longtime customers.

Being a business owner in Lakehurst for the last 38 years has allowed me to be a part of many lives.

I remember the students from Lakehurst Elementary used to walk down Union Avenue for our fresh hot slices and hot or cold subs and a soda at lunchtime and after school. In the '70s, you could get a slice and a soda for under $1!

Today, we still serve a lot of those very same customers plus their children and some grandchildren. Many times, locals who have moved away tell me that they always come back to Luigi's when they are in town because it brings them back to their childhood. It's funny because they always remember me and my brother Jerry joking around with them as kids.

We recently started a Luigi's Lakehurst Facebook page and it is amazing how many people around the country have joined in because they remember us from way back when. One special request that I have is if anyone has old pictures of the sports teams we have sponsored through the years, many of ours were destroyed due to water damage during a renovation, we would love to get them back again for display.

One sports association that comes to mind was the old Lakechester Association... Anyone out there with pictures of any of these teams, please bring in as that association hasn't been in existence for years! What fun that would be to see these pictures again!
