Lakehurst Mayor's Update: Support Volunteer Services

Hello Lakehurst,

I hope this column finds everyone healthy. This leads me into one of my topics of my column.

In January, I had the privilege to swear in the officers of the Lakehurst Volunteer First Aid Squad. Even though they are a small group, they do a big service for the residents of Lakehurst. This outstanding group of people will always be there for you.

I know this has happened to some of you already. Imagine it is the middle of the night and all of a sudden you or a loved one becomes ill, maybe chest pains or something causes an allergic reaction. You call 911 and the police and an ambulance arrive. They take you to the hospital, thank goodness everything turned out OK.

Then you get the ambulance bill which can be in the hundreds. Now the chest pains really start. Unlike other ambulance services the Lakehurst Volunteer First Aid Squad has never charged for their services. They are always there to help.

But now they need your help. The squad is in desperate need of new members. They will be doing a door to door membership drive and hosting an open house in May. Please remember the life you might help save can be that of a loved one or good friend.

And let’s not forget that March 17 is St. Patty’s Day and the Lakehurst Volunteer Fire Department will be holding their . Hope to see you there. By the way the Lakehurst Volunteer Fire Department is another fine organization that can use new members. Please keep them in mind as well.

At our last informal public/mayor meeting, some good ideas were discussed. The suggestion of hosting a farmers market at Lake Horicon and putting butterfly and bat houses at the back of the lake. As for the farmers market, we have been in contact with The Toms River Business Development Office, they will be providing a list of local farmers to contact to be possible vendors. The butterfly and bat houses will be built by Bobbie Pratt’s brother. Lakehurst borough will provide the building materials for the structures. So please understand I do take your ideas and suggestions sincerely. Please join us for our next meeting, March 20, 7:30 p.m. at the Lakehurst Community Center.

The inside of our water tank is complete and back on line. Now we move to the outside of the tank. The power washing has been started and the painting has begun. Look for the new colors.

And finally I, as mayor, would like to take this time to thank all of our department heads and the entire council. When Administrator Norbert McLean retired, .

But in order to do that, all the department heads had to step up, and the council had to be more proactive with their committees. And after only two months, I can honestly say that they all did just that. Thanks again.
