Lakehurst Mayor's Update: Support Volunteer Services

Mayor Harry Robbins' column on borough happenings

Hello Lakehurst,

I hope this column finds everyone healthy. This leads me into one of my topics of my column.

In January, I had the privilege to swear in the officers of the Lakehurst Volunteer First Aid Squad. Even though they are a small group, they do a big service for the residents of Lakehurst. This outstanding group of people will always be there for you.

I know this has happened to some of you already. Imagine it is the middle of the night and all of a sudden you or a loved one becomes ill, maybe chest pains or something causes an allergic reaction. You call 911 and the police and an ambulance arrive. They take you to the hospital, thank goodness everything turned out OK.

Then you get the ambulance bill which can be in the hundreds. Now the chest pains really start. Unlike other ambulance services the Lakehurst Volunteer First Aid Squad has never charged for their services. They are always there to help.

But now they need your help. The squad is in desperate need of new members. They will be doing a door to door membership drive and hosting an open house in May. Please remember the life you might help save can be that of a loved one or good friend.

And let’s not forget that March 17 is St. Patty’s Day and the Lakehurst Volunteer Fire Department will be holding their . Hope to see you there. By the way the Lakehurst Volunteer Fire Department is another fine organization that can use new members. Please keep them in mind as well.

At our last informal public/mayor meeting, some good ideas were discussed. The suggestion of hosting a farmers market at Lake Horicon and putting butterfly and bat houses at the back of the lake. As for the farmers market, we have been in contact with The Toms River Business Development Office, they will be providing a list of local farmers to contact to be possible vendors. The butterfly and bat houses will be built by Bobbie Pratt’s brother. Lakehurst borough will provide the building materials for the structures. So please understand I do take your ideas and suggestions sincerely. Please join us for our next meeting, March 20, 7:30 p.m. at the Lakehurst Community Center.

The inside of our water tank is complete and back on line. Now we move to the outside of the tank. The power washing has been started and the painting has begun. Look for the new colors.

And finally I, as mayor, would like to take this time to thank all of our department heads and the entire council. When Administrator Norbert McLean retired, .

But in order to do that, all the department heads had to step up, and the council had to be more proactive with their committees. And after only two months, I can honestly say that they all did just that. Thanks again.

God Bless American, God Bless Lakehurst and Please God Bless our Troops,

Mayor Harry Robbins

Sounds like this Mayor is already doing what he promised. Talks to his constituents in understandable language. Refreshing.

I think the mayor is doing an excellent job so far.. He is listening twice as much as he speaks unlike the previous communist do as I say not as I do regime. Great job Mayor Robbins keep up the good work and lets make our town a great place again with family events and community service.

I agree Bob. Harry is a really down to earth guy. Much different from the former mayor that everybody called "Borat. "
Paula March 18, 2012 at 10:44 PM
Ya i heard "Borat" used to have the former administrator "Basil" carry out all his dirty work when dealing with residents that complained. Im really happy with the new mayor he listens to the people and supports our local volunteers. Great job Mr. Robbins we r finally begining to trust our local government now that the wall of communisium or shall I basilism has fallen.
Janice March 18, 2012 at 11:10 PM
I meant who is basil?
Mimi March 19, 2012 at 02:17 AM
Lakehurst will be much better now that Norbert and Borsetti are gone. the 2 worst. At least Mr Robbins knows what he is talking about. The last Mayor would just giveBS answers with no truth.

I hope that Mayor Robbins doesn't allow the Lakehurst "Zepplin" Bike race that the former Mayor Tim "Borat" Borsetti used to personally sponser. All this did was cost tax payers money between overtime for public works and Police. Also property and commercial buisness inconveince. Another perfect example of how that clown used the town for his own amusement although couldn't make a single function but loved to strap on spandex and play Lance Armstrong. WE DONT WANT THIS AGAIN!!!

He also rigged the election!
