Police Blotter: Bayville Man Jailed After Fleet Reserve Assault

Man faces multiple charges from Saturday night incident

A Bayville man faces multiple charges after police responded to a fight report at the Lakehurst Fleet Reserve Association branch Saturday night.

Officers Jeffrey Emmons and Stephen Gallo responded to the 204 Union Avenue location at about 11:30 p.m. after receiving a fight call and found that the suspect, 48-year-old Jeffrey J. Ford of Bayville, had fled the scene along with a female, said Sgt. Ronald Heinzman.

According to the sergeant, Ford was denied service at the bar and became angry.

"Ford, who initially refused to leave, pushed the bar manager into the side of a vehicle parked in the lot and broke a chair," Heinzman said.

Police located Ford on Fays Lane, about three blocks from the Fleet Reserve, and took him into custody. He was "irate and belligerent" with the officers, Heinzman said.

Ford was charged with simple assault, defiant trespassing, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, Heinzman said, and was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $2,500 bail with no 10 percent option.
