Bicyclist Suffered Head Injury in Thursday Crash, Police Say

55-year-old Michael Whaley had to be hospitalized following the early-afternoon accident, according to police.

A bicyclist suffered a head injury in an afternoon crash in the Whiting section of Manchester Township Thursday afternoon, Manchester Township Police said.

Michael Whaley, 55, of Browns Mills, was thrown from his bike when he collided with a Toyota Corolla driven by 88-year-old Marguerit Wilson on Lacey Road just after 2 p.m., police said.

In addition to the head injury, Whaley also suffered multiple bruises, and was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment, police said. Wilson was not hurt in the crash.

Lacey Road was closed for about an hour as Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Manchester Ptl. Thomas O’Hare and Douglas Higgins spent roughly an hour investigating at the scene, police said.

No charges were immediately announced.
