Cars Strike Utility Poles on Cox Cro Road, Hooper Avenue in Two Separate Incidents

Both drivers left accident scene, charged with DUI, according to police

A Toms River woman was charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident Friday morning, according to Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

Sheri Perine, 41, Norma Place, was driving a 1999 Toyota west on Cox Cro and Whitesville Roads when it left the road and struck a utility pole at approximately 12:30 a.m., Mastronardy said in a press release.

After hitting the pole she attempted to drive home, but pulled into a parking lot on Route 70.

Perine was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. No information was available on Perine's condition.

Officer Mathew Broderick was the arresting officer.

In the second incident, officers responded to an accident, just before 1 a.m. on Friday, with a vehicle striking a pole at Fischer Boulevard and Hooper Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the pole on the ground. The vehicle had left the scene after striking a county sign and striking another pole.

The vehicle then went across a grassy area and was located in a parking lot, Mastronardy said in a press release.

Officer Jason Putkowski followed the trail of debris from his vehicle.

Police arrested Miguel Nieves-Montes, 23, of 26 James Street, Toms River, for driving while intoxicated and being an unlicensed driver.

Did anyone check if Miguel Nieves-Montes is in our country legally. I seriously doubt it.
