Drugs, Weapons Seized in Car Stop, Manchester Police Say

A West Deptford man faces charges from the Saturday incident.

A Gloucester County man who had drugs and a machete in his Mercedes was arrested on Route 539 near Route 70 after being stopped by a Manchester Township officer early Saturday morning, Manchester Township Police said.

Officer Joseph Fastige spotted the machete wedged in between the driver’s seat and the car door after pulling over Brian J. Diemunsch, 37, of West Deptford, police said, leading Fastige to request to search the car.

After Diemunsch OK’d the search, Fastige seized the 18-inch machete, as well as a dirk—a type of long dagger—and also found 11 bags of heroin and crack cocaine, police said.

Diemunsch, who said he works with computers, admitted to having no reason to have the weapons, police said, and was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon and two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia.

He was also served with multiple motor vehicle violations, and taken to the Ocean County Jail in default of $20,000 bail.
