Friday Evening Collision Kills 2 Along Route 70

Four others sent to the hospital following the crash near Wilbur Avenue

A three-car crash along Route 70 Friday evening claimed two lives and sent four to the hospital, police said. 

The crash occurred near Wilbur Avenue on the state highway at about 6:30 p.m. when a 2010 Nissan Sentra driven by Manchester resident Ian W. Warrender, 73, collided with a 2010 Toyota Yaris operated by Pamela J. Trotter, 41, of Wrightstown, said Capt. Lisa Parker. 

Both vehicles were then struck by a 1993 Chevrolet Wagon driven by 27-year-old Rita Solheim of Jackson, Parker said.

Trotter was pronounced dead at the scene. Warrender was transported by helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune where he later died, Parker said. Both were travelling alone.

Solheim was travelling with her husband, Alfred H. Solheim, and two children. All four were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for their injuries and observation, Parker said.

Traffic along Route 70 was detoured between Routes 571 and 527 for "several hours," Parker said.

Also responding to the scene were the Manchester and Ridgeway Volunteer Fire and First Aid departments, Quality Medical Transport, MONOC Paramedics, New Jersey State Police and Department of Transportation, the and Ocean County's Criminal Investigation Unit and Prosecutor's Office.
