Grand Jury: Sex Offender Failed to Comply with Megan's Law in Lakehurst

An Ocean County grand jury handed up the indictment last week

A Tuckerton man living in Lakehurst was charged by an Ocean County grand jury after he failed to register under Megan's Law in May.

Lester L. Peer, 56, of Belloff Drive, Tuckerton, was indicted for failing to register as a sex offender in Lakehurst on May 15. Peer was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual contact in Ocean County in 1993, according to the state's registry.

Near the time of Peer's arrest, an investigation by borough officer Jeffrey Emmons determined that the man failed to comply with Megan's Law, as police allege he did not register annually and did not notify police of his address change.

Peer, who had lived in the borough, was found at a Little Egg Harbor residence by that town's police. He was arrested and turned over to Emmons in Lakehurst.

According to Sgt. Ronald Heinzman, Peer was then taken to Ocean County Jail in lieu of the $25,000 bail set by Judge Damian Murray of the Lakehurst Municipal Court.
