Lakehurst Applauds Police In Catching Fugitive; Suspect Tried To Head-Butt Officers

Facebook commenters and others were applauding this week the arrest of a 47-year-old man in Florida who also has addresses in Lakehurst and Manchester.

The apprehension took place on Thursday. Powers faced the following charges: driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving while suspended and other charges.

According to Lakehurst police:

On February 27th at approximately midnight the above subject Robert Powers Jr. was pulled over by Lakehurst Police Officers Joseph DePasquale and Jeremy Martin after he was observed speeding on Route 70 near RT547 in a U-Haul truck. (58/45). An on scene investigation resulted in Powers being placed under arrest for numerous motor vehicle violations and Driving While Intoxicated.

It was discovered during the booking process at police headquarters that Powers was a wanted fugitive from the State of Florida for 1st degree Arson at a Days Inn Motel in Fort Pierce, Florida. The warrant was full extradition issued by the Saint Lucie County Sheriff's Office. When Officers DePasquale and Martin advised Powers of the arrest warrant, he became irate and attempted to headbutt the Officers and use force to prevent being placed in a patrol vehicle for transport to the Ocean County Jail. Powers was additionally charged with Obstruction of Justice. He is currently lodged in the Ocean County Jail awaiting extradition to Florida.
