Lakehurst Police Blotter: Assault by Auto, Criminal Mischief

The borough's police blotter from April 6 to April 14

Lakehurst Police Department Sgt. Ron Heinzman reported the following arrests and charges in the borough from April 6 to April to April 14:

April 6

Rory J. Caron, 26, of Lakehurst, was arrested at his Hybernia Street residence by Sgt. Brian Baranyay on an outstanding Lakehurst Municipal Court warrant. According to police, Caron was unable to post bail and was lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

April 12

Brian J. Alteri, 34, of Bayville, was arrested during a motor vehicle stop on Route 70 after Officer Ryan Valeri discovered that Alteri had two outstanding municipal court warrants, one in Asbury Park and another in Toms River.

According to police, Alteri was unable to post bail and was turned over to Toms River Police.

April 13

Gregory H. Schlicher, 32, of Browns Mills, was arrested and faces multiple charges stemming from a March 18 incident in the Eisenhower Circle on Route 70 which involved a downed motorcycle.

According to police, Schlicher was driving the motorcycle when it toppled and caused serious injury to Schlicher and his passenger, who were both taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.

Schlicher turned himself in to Lakehurst Police on April 13 and was charged with assault by auto while under the influence of alcohol, DWI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, consumption of alcohol and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, police said.

Officer Jeffrey Emmons handled the investigation.

April 13

Three juveniles were arrested and will be charged with criminal mischief, harassment and bias intimidation in Toms River Family Court following reported incidents on April 9. 

According to police, Officer Emmons developed leads after speaking with residents who had reported broken car windshields, eggs thrown at their homes and "sexually explicit" images spraypainted on buildings and vehicles throughout the borough. 

Police reported that all three juveniles were processed at Lakehurst Police Department and turned over to their parents. Sgt. Heinzman assisted with the investigation. 

April 14

Steven P. Caffrey, 37, of Browns Mills, was arrested and charged with DWI and other traffic offenses after being stopped at Union Avenue and Lake Street by Officer Jesse Hoydis. 

According to police, Caffery was released pending a municipal court date. Officer Iain James assisted with the arrest, and a Toms River Police officer acted as a drug recognition expert.
