Lakehurst Woman Injured When Bike Collides with Car in Manchester

Collision occurred at Colonial Drive and Route 37 intersection

A Lakehurst bicyclist was taken to an area hospital after colliding with a car at the intersection of Route 37 and Colonial Drive on Friday, police said.

The bicyclist, identified as 21-year-old Mary Lutz of Lakehurst, collided with a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 30-year-old Manchester resident Erica Chapman as the car was making a right turn from Colonial Drive on to Route 37 east, Manchester police Capt. Lisa Parker said in a statement.

Lutz was riding the bike westbound on the eastbound shoulder of Route 37 when the crash occurred, Parker said.

Patrol units responding to the scene found Lutz sitting on side of the state highway when they arrived. She was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River after complaining of pain to her lower right leg, Parker said.

Chapman was uninjured in the crash, which is being investigated by Patrolman Richard Chevrier of the police department's patrol division, according to Parker.
