Leisure Village West Resident Charged With Attempted Homicide

Man allegedly stabbed wife and attempted to take his own life

A Leisure Village West resident was arrested and charged today with the attempted homicide of his wife following his release from the hospital for self-inflicted injuries sustained during the incident, Manchester police reported.

James J. O'Sullivan, 59, allegedly stabbed his 61-year-old wife in the chest and caused injury to her hand during an April 27 incident, according to a release issued by Capt. Lisa Parker.

After stabbing his wife, Parker stated that O'Sullivan tried to take his own life by stabbing himself in the chest. His wife then called 911 and went to a neighbor's home to seek help.

A neighbor was able to administer first aid until police and paramedics arrived. According to Parker, O'Sullivan was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for chest injuries. His wife was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where she was treated for chest and hand injuries.

O'Sullivan was arrested upon his release today and was transported to the Manchester Police Department for processing. According to Parker, O'Sullivan was then taken to the Ocean County Jail where his bail was set at $250,000 by Judge Wendel Daniels.
