Man Bilked Banks of More Than $30K, Indictment Alleges

Ocean County grand juries hand up indictments

A Bergen County man faces multiple criminal charges accusing him of withdrawing tens of thousands of dollars from banks in Manchester and Toms River via counterfeit checks.

Yildirim Simsek of Elmwood Park, 32, was indicted by an Ocean County grand jury earlier this month on charges of presenting phony checks to Sovereign Bank branches in both townships as well as TD Bank branches in Toms River and Manchester.

Simsek garnered $31,900 on six counterfeit checks presented on Dec. 20 and Dec. 23, authorities said.

On Dec. 20, Simsek cashed checks for $4,780 at TD Bank in Toms River and two separate checks for $4,850 and $4,950 at Sovereign Bank in Toms River, authorities said. On Dec. 23, he cashed checks for $5,780 at TD Bank in Manchester and $5,640 and $5,900 at Sovereign Bank in Manchester, the charges state.

In all cases, the checks were drawn on the account of a limited liability company, JRSMI, and featured false or forged endorsements, authorities said.

Simsek was charged with third-degree theft by deception and six counts of third-degree uttering a forged instrument.

He was jailed on $40,000 bail, no 10 percent option.

Ocean County grand juries also indicted: 

  • Matthew Forcier of Route 37 West, 25, on charges of forging a prescription for oxycodone at Walgreen's Pharmacy in Toms River.

Forcier was charged with third-degree uttering a forged instrument and third-degree attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud. 

He was released on a summons.

  • Larry W. Krogman Jr. of Midway Avenue, 23, on charges of breaking into a car in the township and stealing at least $200 on July 1.

Krogman was charged with fourth-degree theft and third-degree burglary. He was initially jailed on $7,500 bail but posted July 1.

  • Mark R. Sloan of Whiting, 35, on charges of breaking into a Point Pleasant Borough home on June 13 and stealing jewelry.

Sloan was charged with burglary and theft, both in the third degree. He was initially jailed on $7,500 bail but posted July 28.

  • Jason A. Pinto of Pulham Court, 37, on a drug charge.

Pinto is accused of possessing oxycodone in Lakewood on June 7. He was released on a summons.

  • Cailee D. Jackson of Linden, 21, on drug charges.

Jackson is accused of possessing heroin in Lakehurst on July 15. She also was charged with possession with intent to distribute, as well as possession with intent to distribute within a school zone.

Jackson was initially jailed on $50,000 bail but posted Oct. 5.
