Man Charged With Assault, Disorderly Conduct After Striking EMS Worker

A Leisure Village West man was charged with assault by police after he struck emergency responders treating him for a fall. 

Police received a first aid call for an intoxicated man who fell at an Edinburgh Lane home Wednesday, said Capt. Lisa Parker in a statement. 

Patrolmen Chris Cerullo and Robert Maccaquano responded to the residence and found 68-year-old John Robertshaw was "laying face down in his bedroom closet," the captain said.

When Quality Medical Transport paramedics tried to help Robertshaw on to a stretcher, "he became agitated and began shouting obscenities," Parker said. "Mr. Robertshaw then became combative and struck one of the Quality Medical workers about the fact with a closed fist."

The responder was not injured by the attack and Robertshaw was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct, Parker said. Robertshaw's bail was set at $1,000 and he was taken for treatment to Community Medical Center in Toms River.
