Man Injured After Car Strikes Pole, Bank in Whiting

Driver transported to Community Medical Center

A Whiting man traveling on Route 530 struck a light pole and bushes before hitting a bank Monday.

Phillip E. Hallmann, 46, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala east on the county highway, also known as Lacey Road, when the car left the road and struck a Sovereign Bank,  Lt. Robert Dolan said in a statement.

No one at the bank, located at 108 Lacey Road, was injured and damage to the structure was minimal. Hallmann was traveling alone in the car and was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, according to Dolan.

Patrolman Douglas Higgins of the department's Traffic Safety Section and Patrolman Joseph Hankins are investigating the crash. Police ask that anyone with information contact the department at 732-657-2009, ext. 4400.

Whiting's first aid squad and fire department, and the Ocean County Ciminalistics Investigation Unit responded to the scene, Dolan said.
