More Charges for Alleged Crestwood Village Burglar; Bail Increased to $140K

Police announced the additional charges on Thursday night

More charges have been issued to the alleged Crestwood Village burglar, resulting in a near doubling of his bail, police announced late Thursday.

Jason M. Clancy, 26, of Mill Road in Crestwood Village VI, now faces 15 counts of burglary and 36 counts of attempted burglary, Manchester police Capt. Lisa Parker said on Thursday night.

Bail for Clancy, who remains lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, is now $140,000, Parker said. Before the additional charges were added, his bail was set at $75,000.

In early September, Clancy initially was arrested and charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of criminal mischief and two counts of theft after a two-month string of burglaries and attempted burglaries in Crestwood Villages I, Vi and VII in which unlocked doors and windows were used to enter homes.

The total number of completed or attempted burglaries in the villages had risen to 60 since early July; a third of those were entered and money and jewelry was taken, according to Parker.

A positive fingerprint identification obtained from one of the targeted homes led police to identify the man as the alleged burglar, Chief of Police Brian Klimakowski said at the time of Clancy's arrest.

The investigation is ongoing, Parker said Thursday.

Since then, police have urged residents to "harden" their homes to avoid becoming a target for burglars.
