They were sleeping? And someone breaks in? Were they drunk? On drugs? Someone breaks into my house I know about it. Sounds like an inside job to me
knarfie March 12, 2013 at 10:47 pm
And that is a "gated" community with roving security.
knarfie March 12, 2013 at 10:49 pm
It's an adult community. Many outside workers come and go. I bet most of them are illegal.
security officer 1 March 13, 2013 at 12:12 am
Wow,that really hits home hard. Not good for the security officers. Come on crew what's going on.
security officer 1 March 13, 2013 at 12:13 am
Not good for anyone in that matter.
i don't get it?? March 13, 2013 at 02:09 am
It did happen in a retirement community...maybe they are older and truly didn't hear anything...its such a shame. Thankfully they weren't hurt, or worse.
Mark Wendell March 13, 2013 at 02:28 am
Open window....nice.
bhavaja March 13, 2013 at 12:38 pm
security and rover is weak at these villages although costly; only one rover over big territory and ond 1-2 rounds...any work or supposed work truck/person is whoosed in...definite issue.
HoosierGirl March 13, 2013 at 02:00 pm
To lacey voter - This occurred in a retirement community. A "gated" community with seemingly questionable security. People live here who have worked hard all their lives and believe they are "safe", in their own beds, in their own homes. It's great that you're so aware of your surroundings while you're asleep - and very narrow minded that you believe the only way someone isn't aware is due to alcohol or drugs. Please try to be aware while you're awake and at your keyboard. This happened to someone's parents / grandparents and you should wake up and realize it could happen to you too.
UPeopleR2Much March 13, 2013 at 04:40 pm
This is why people have to realize that all of these gated and senior communities must be taken into consideration when thoughts of cutting back on police or hiring police is brought up. I always see people saying that cops are not needed for these communities but it's pretty obvious that their presence, response, and enforcement is needed.
Bryan March 13, 2013 at 10:13 pm
Why is it that one house in renaissance gets robbed and we hear about it right away but it took 8 homes in pine lake park to make the news? The police generally dont patrol gated communities cause they are considered private property.... ATLANTIC CITY had the same issue with patroling casino parking garages....
PAT FARRELL March 14, 2013 at 02:18 am
You hear about it right away because the mayor lives in the Renaissance
UPeopleR2Much March 14, 2013 at 02:45 am
Bryan cops still have to respond to calls for service in these communities. And the mayor lives in Leisure Knoll...
security officer 1 March 14, 2013 at 03:06 am
Mayor does not live in renissance. We need real gaurds at these gates not some kids just looking for an easy job. Not only that they could have gotten in to the community anywhere, not just the gate. We work closely with the police. Just cause this one made papper dose not mean its the only break in. Helllooooooo notice my screen name.
Joyce Tanzillo March 14, 2013 at 04:52 am
Some of your comments are ridiculous about senior communities and security.. They are gated communities not secured communities. They couldn't have a cop on every street corner 24/7 or a security guard roaming 24/7 either. We don't want a huge wall surrounding us like we are in a prison.i Most of the time they are inside jobs. What do you say about the communities that have no security at all like crestwood or Holiday City. They have police roaming their area and still have breakins. Don't blame the guy at the gate for this one.
Bryan March 14, 2013 at 09:39 am
Yes we know the police have to respond to calls but they should also be allowed by law to patrol these areas, what harm could it do? Odds are its an inside job, meaning someone with access, not just security, could be a maintance, and contractor or someone who may be staying with a resident. Who ever did this must have known what these people had and just where to find it. Dont worry they will get them, cause most of the time these guys arent too smart...
UPeopleR2Much March 14, 2013 at 12:48 pm
Inside jobs mean someone's adult child that are living with them. Less than 5% of the adult children that are in there are actually helping take care of their parents. The rest milk their parents dry, are wanted, and have drug problems. Tell your association about the 40 year old son that lives with mom, drives her car around, has no job, and knocks on your door offering his handyman services.
security officer 1 March 14, 2013 at 01:31 pm
Funny how we are sitting here fighting about who could have done it. Has anyone thought about how the residents feel? The person who did it will get caught. But,what about these residents? They are prob so tramitized. Prob haveing problems sleeping and everything now.
Bryan March 14, 2013 at 02:18 pm
@securityofficer1 of coarse people think of that. That just goes without saying. Its hard to avoid but when you hire a contractor you dont thier back rounds or who works for them, you open your door and let em in. Wish i knew a good answer except to know who you let in your home, by hiring someone you know..
HoosierGirl March 14, 2013 at 02:24 pm
Security Officer 1 - thank you for your comments - you are correct about the victims here and I'm sure they appreciate your thoughts too.
suzy March 19, 2013 at 12:32 am
I agree with you-UPeopleR2Much-I live in Whiting-supposedly a retirement village-but there are more men 40-50 yr olds living with their mom or dad and laying around on couches all day long doing nothing! They dont work, some dont drive, dont have cars, etc. What is up with this? My husband and I worked for 45 yrs, raised our family, had a house, and our 2 children who are in their 40's are doing the same also. I personally have never seen anything like this and to me this breeds trouble as far as break ins, drugs, etc. The adult children should act like adults and be responsible adults.

Hi Patch! Where is my comment/response? I submitted it on Mon. 5/27 and it was not nearly asRead More inflammatory as some I have seen, just concerned and inquisitive. It read as "pending" after I submitted it (who makes that judgement, I do not know) so I am curious...

You would do good if your were silent. You make very little sense and misstated the facts in justRead More about everything you said from landfill stickers to recycling to water revenue. What about when you needed a job, who gave you one? With the Director gone work will start going to contractors again. Everyone will pay. Taxpayers and employees. Did you read the article he wrote? If you didn't maybe you should. You too, nobody special. Who hired you? You will be picking up trash real soon. Are you going to grieve that too?

Director Stanziano has been singing the praises of his workers for years. Did you read ANY of theRead More past articles on the Patch and in Manchester Times? How about his articles in magazines with pictures of his workers? He wrote about how his workers saved the town money. HE got them all raises, NOT the union. Yes let's start with TOP HEAVY supervision. Start at the TOP on the 2nd floor of town hall. Time to cut some of the FAT!
