Photos Show Becky Wilson 'Smiling, Always Happy'

Manchester mother charged in her daughter's death

Neighbors and friends continue to remember their friend Rebecca "Becky" Wilson, a disabled woman who died in May after her mother allegedly abandoned her at their Pine Ridge at Crestwood home.

Friend Ethel Urkoff shared photos of Wilson with Patch, showing the 32-year-old enjoying community events.

"Every picture, you'll see she's smiling, always happy," Urkoff said.

Janet Wilson was recently arrested and charged after a strange odor coming from her Manchester residence was detected in May, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Manchester Township Police Chief Brian Klimakowski.

After an investigation, Janet Wilson was located in Reno, Nev., arrested on June 20 and transported back to New Jersey on July 4, according to authorities.

Signs, dolls and what could be a chair for a person who is handicapped were placed outside Wilson's home last week.

That tribute continues to grow, with stuffed animals and other items continually being placed at the makeshift memorial. A brief memorial was also placed in the community newspaper, the Pine Ridge Press.

Janet Wilson, who is charged with aggravated manslaughter, desecrating human remains and neglect of a disabled adult in connection with the death of her 32-year-old daughter Rebecca, appeared before Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson Jr. last week and pleaded not guilty.

Neighbors showed their support for Rebecca Wilson at the court that day.

“We’re here for Becky,” said Madeline Scotti, who lives nearby.
