UPDATE: Police Begin More Extensive Canvass for Missing Whiting Woman

A contingent of  police officers have been knocking on doors and searching trails and lakes near Crestwood Village I in hopes of tracking down a woman who has been missing for 11 days. 

The group of 10 officers set out Thursday morning to the senior development in Whiting where Joan Conetta, a 74-year-old who was reported missing June 11, lives.

"We are handing out flyers and asking as many questions as possible with hopes of developing leads," said Capt. Lisa Parker. "We are also going to local businesses again with flyers for re-posting and asking about sightings."

Parker said that the push is "procedural" and is not related to which has not yet been confirmed by detectives. 

Police on Thursday afternoon are also searching "all" streams, lakes and ponds around Crestwood Village I and America's Keswick — officials at the ministry lent police canoes to use in the search, Parker said.

This is not the first times officers have canvassed the neighborhood — a search was conducted when Conetta was first reported missing, according to Parker.

"This one is more expansive in location and more in-depth with interviews," she said. 

On Wednesday, two cadaver dogs — one from the Bergen County Sheriff's Office and another from the New Jersey State Police — for remains. Authorities brought in the dogs as a procedural matter — they do not have any indication that Conetta may have died in the woods.

"We're utilizing all our investigative tools for the process of elimination," Parker said at the time.

The grey-haired, hazel-eyed woman is approximately 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 100 pounds. She was last believed to be wearing a grey jogging suit and often takes walks to the Crestwood Village Shopping Center, according to Chief of Police Brian Klimakowski. 

Conetta does not have access to an automobile and may be suffering from disorientation, said Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford in a statement issued last week.
