Police Blotter: Drunk Man Charged With Disorderly Conduct at Lakehurst 7-Eleven

Police charged borough resident after responding to fight call

A Lakehurst man was charged with disorderly conduct Tuesday night after police responded to a fight report at a borough convenience store.

After police dispatch received "multiple" 911 calls for a reported fight at the Lakehurst at around 9 p.m., Officers Jeffrey Emmons and Raymond Vosseller were dispatched to the 217 Route 70 store, said Sgt. Ronald Heinzman.

When the officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Richard Kopec "intoxicated and irate," Heinzman said.

Police arrested Kopec and processed him at department headquarters. Once charged, he was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $2,500 bail, Heinzman said.

Two juveniles from Jackson — a male and female whose names were not released by police because they are underage — were arrested for disorderly conduct and curfew violations, Heinzman said. The charges will be forwarded to the Ocean County Family Court in Toms River.

Apparently...this individual just doesn't get it. Sounds like he needs to do some time.
William Ellis May 03, 2012 at 12:22 PM
Wait...Richard Kopec? Wasn't that name JUST IN 1 or 2 other Patch articles also involving some drunken and/or drug related antics in Lakehurst?
ballyjduf May 03, 2012 at 02:31 PM
Why are they always in lakehurst??
April May 04, 2012 at 12:43 AM
I watched the entire incident and went outside to break it up: the arrested did start this by verbally harrassing the other young man BUT the other young man was not arrested after throwing and landing 3-4 punches on the arrested. It was a miscarriage of justice that the other young man was not arrested for assault. The police I spoke with said they are tired of R. Kopec and arrested him because he didn't walk away. WHAT??? Oh, the other young man has a family member on the police squad~ of course, let him go. I notices there's no mention that Kopec was with his girlfriend and the other one with a gang of boys all threatening him...good job LPD~ arrest the one who didn't walk away instead of the one who threw the punches. Disgraceful IMO; both should have been arrested!!!

from the march 30th patch Three Lakehurst men were arrested and charged last week in an underage alcohol purchase incident. Two men, 18-year-old Richard Kopec Jr. and 19-year-old Ramunas Cekanauskas, were arrested and charged by Sgt. Brian Baranyay after they allegedly solicited an adult to purchase alcohol on March 25, said Sgt. Ronald Heinzman. The adult they allegedly asked to make the purchase was Terranyance B. Wise, 22, of Lakehurst. Wise was charged with purchasing and providing alcohol to person under the legal age, Heinzman said. Wise and Kopec were processed at police department headquarters and released on summonses to appear in municipal court. Cekanauskas was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on a disorderly conduct charge, Heinzman said. His bail was set at $500. Patrolman Iain James assisted Baranyay with the arrests, Heinzman said. Cekanauskas and Kopec had another run in with law enforcement. In January, the pair was charged with four counts of burglary, four counts of theft and one count of criminal mischief that police allege occurred between Oct. 30, 2011, and Jan. 12, 2012, according to Chief of Police Eric Higgins. They were released pending an Ocean County Superior Court date on those charges. why is this clown still allowed to walk the streets??? hey april they arrested the right guy
April May 04, 2012 at 11:02 AM
No, they arrested ONE of the right guys~ the other guy who actually committed a physical assault against Kopec was not arrested. If you read the last sentence of my comment, you'll see I said they SHOULD have arrested BOTH of them...I know, reading is fundamental;)

the Boys in town have been super busy lately..... But I am glad to see and read that they are cracking down around here, with everything.... Keep up the good job LPD.

Didn't they just arrest kopec on drug charges as well? Was he also involved with the assault with a hammer incident? He is probably out on Bond, they'll get him when he has to appear in court....
Watchdawg May 04, 2012 at 10:14 PM
hey april dont quit your day job. its called kopec can go to court and make a complaint against the kid who punched him in the face. Maybe he deserved it afterall he likes to attack people with hammers or maybe with his record he shouldn't of even been out of jail to of been involved. Apparently its the world against richard kopec. Its people like you that need to stay off here because you make no sense look at this clowns record...I dont even know the kid and i can say he is a degenerate and that he probably started it. GOOD WORK LPD you april should think before you speak or maybe keep your opions to ur self you just supported a total and complete TURD!
onthecuff May 04, 2012 at 10:57 PM
Hey Watchdawg, Thanks for confirming my thoughts. It was Kopec that they arrested for assaulting the other kid with the hammer, they just picked him up last week??? For doing this. Not to mention he is a well known Drug Dealer in town and he really is trouble. ya hate to label kids, but they are what they are...... Lakehurst PD, they know what their doing. And ya know what Lakehurst is so small, that once your trouble, not only do the cops know it but the entire neighborhood does as well. They should lock him up and have him serve some hard time, maybe that would straighten his punk A^% out.....
April May 05, 2012 at 02:44 PM
hey Watchdawg~ I don't support the uneven application of the law, no matter who is involved. Even criminals can be victimized and you obviously feel people get what they deserve: since when is violence supported in our societ? You are what's wrong with America: "he got what he deserved". So in your enlightened opinion, a troubled young man doesn't deserve justice? I beg to differ: all deserve the same protections from the law, not just the law-abiding citizens. I'll say that you should find a dictionary, thought~ "opions" is not a word;)

C'mon man May 07, 2012 at 04:07 PM
Hey April, Kopec could of walked away and called Police immediatley at the start of the problem obviously he didnt do that here AGAIN.....he is 18 yrs old and DRUNK AGAIN & INVOLVED IN A MESS! Just for your information because you think your smart.. which again obviously your not..just ignorant to the law like Kopec. I just graduated law school so just to fill you in under NJ state law involving simple assault the Police do not HAVE to effect the arrest of either of the persons who activley enter into a fight mutually meaning the arrest is not MANDITORY and basically a misdermeanor if the fight did not happen in the presence of the Police Officers. Both would be advised of court complaints and to sign complaints against each other if they wished down at the court since stupid crap like this boggs down our Court system and it will go no were in the end. If both were arrested judging in this case neither would pursue the matter in court anyway hense a waist of time. I agree with the fokes above in the end common sense speaks volumes and pervailed even if people like you think justice didn't. If I had this guys record I would lock myself in the house and stay out of trouble. The week is young so maybe I will be selling FREE KOPEC SHIRTS before the next circus starts were he again is the ring master. You will be the only one that buys one Im sure.

societ isnt a word either by the way
WhitingBoy May 07, 2012 at 04:35 PM
I hope this was a joke (I normally couldn’t care how people spell, but the arrogance of the “I just graduated law school” was a bit much): Your post had seven egregious spelling errors and four obvious grammatical errors. You can make a counter-point, but no need to demean someone’s education on a comment section, counselor.
