Police Blotter: Township Man Charged in Attempted Row Boat Theft

Police say man planned to sell row boat from Pine Lake Park for scrap

Manchester police reported that a township man was arrested and charged last week for his involvement in stealing a row boat from Pine Lake Park to sell for scrap metal.

According to information released by Capt. Lisa Parker, Michael T. Newnom, 34, of Manchester, was being questioned by Detective Chris Hemhauser on June 21 when another officer recognized Newnom as a suspect from an attempted theft at earlier.

Newnom was identified from surveillance video given to the department by Donovan's and was arrested in Holly Oaks, police said.

According to police, Newnom was charged with theft in both incidents and was taken to Bergen County Jail on a no-bail warrant issued by that county.
