UPDATE: Police Department's 'Staying Safe In Manchester' Kicks Off Today

The first of a six-part "Staying Safe in Manchester" will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at the Manchester branch of the Ocean County Library.

The public safety series on Monday will focus the police department and police operations. Police Chief Brian Klimakowski will speak at all six sessions.

The free series highlighting law enforcement, emergency services and public safety will run monthly through November.

“These library programs will give the residents of Manchester Township an overall understanding of what the Department of Public Safety does to serve our community on a daily basis,” Klimakowski said.

The June 2 session will teach residents how to remain alert to the crime threats facing Manchester and give them the opportunity to check out the new equipment and technologies police use to keep the township’s neighborhoods safe.

Other sessions in the series will cover Manchester’s emergency services, school security and safety, crime prevention, Internet safety, and driver and traffic safety. Each session will include a question and answer period.

A representative will be on hand at each session to help residents enroll in the NIXLE emergency notification system. This system is used by officials in Manchester and throughout the state to instantly update residents about emergency situations through text message and email alerts.
