Police: Intoxicated Manchester Woman Used Car in Assault, Endangered Daughter

A Manchester woman faces multiple charges including child endangerment after an alleged drunken assault and hit and run incident in Jackson Monday evening. 

During a dispute on Cassville Road, Michele Duffy, 34, of Manchester, allegedly intentionally drove a 2002 Mazda into the man holding the couple's six-year-old daughter, Jackson police said.

Duffy allegedly ran the man over and struck another individual who came to help before she put the child in the car and left the scene, police said.

Manchester police later located the Mazda at the township's Quick Chek on Route 571 and Duffy was taken into custody. She was transported to the Jackson Police Department and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to police.

Duffy remains lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $50,000 bail with a 10 percent option set by Judge Daniel Sahin, police said.

The two victims, who were not named by police, were transported to hospitals in Trenton and Lakewood for treatment.

Additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues, police said.
