Police: Soda Bottle Bomb Detonated in Pine Lake Park

Explosion was reported to police on Sunday night

are seeking information from the public as they search for those responsible for detonating a soda bottle bomb in Pine Lake Park this past weekend.

Police received a call at about 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, that an explosion was heard near the 2100 block of Second Avenue, said Capt. Lisa Parker.

The remains of a green Sprite bottle, which appeared to have been detonated, and "small pieces of tin foil" were found on the lawn at 2116 Second Ave, Parker said. Pieces of the bottle were found as far as 20 feet from the site of detonation.

"The detonation was believed to be caused by a mixed chemical reaction," Parker said.

No injuries, property damage or subsequent explosions were reported, Parker said.

The caller told police that a "dark-colored vehicle with square rear tail lights" was spotted leaving the area following the explosion, Parker said. Police urge anyone with information to contact the department at 732-657-6111.

Manchester's Office of Emergency Management and the Manchester and Ridgeway fire departments assisted police at the scene, according to Parker.
