Police: Woman Allegedly Drove with Lakehurst Man on Car Roof, Slammed Brakes to Force His Fall

Aggravated assault charge was issued to Point Pleasant woman by Lakehurst police Thursday

A Point Pleasant woman was charged with 3rd degree aggravated assault after she allegedly drove on Route 70 with a man on the roof of her car and slammed the brakes, causing him to fall on Pine Street. 

Sgt. Ronald Heinzman and Patrolman Iain James investigated the Thursday incident, which began when Tara L. Oquendo, 35, of Point Pleasant and an unidentified 22-year-old Lakehurst man identified as her boyfriend had a "verbal altercation," police said. 

The man was driven to the Lakehurst Police Department headquarters by Oquendo, where she tried to leave him. The man then got on the roof of Oquendo's car and was taken for a ride down Route 70 east toward, according to police.

"She then turned on to Cedar Street and behind the Domino's Pizza, she hit the breaks at which time the male fell from the roof of the car injuring his right knee," police said.

Lakehurst First Aid Squad members treated the man and Oquendo was charged by officers with aggravated assault. She was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $10,000 bail with no 10 percent option, police said.
