Rising Tides, Possible Flooding For Barnegat, LBI, Manahawkin Residents

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for coastal areas of Barnegat and Stafford townships, with a high tide coming Friday morning.

A major coastal storm that will bring severe winter weather conditions to the region will also bring the possibility of moderate coastal flooding along the bayfront in both Barnegat and Stafford Townships and Waretown.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to protect property, including moving vehicles from low lying areas that typically flood with moderate coastal flooding.

In addition, with the extremely cold temperatures expected Friday, there is the potential for icy conditions to exist on roadway and sidewalk surfaces once the high tide recedes later in the day on Friday.

With daytime temperatures on Friday struggling to reach 20 degrees and lows Friday night around 2 degrees, there is a real chance of significant icing along the bayfront. Use extreme caution when driving or walking along the bayfront after high tide tomorrowmorning.

Please do not drive around barricades or drive on flooded roads. Most likely, Bayshore Drive in the area of the Barnegat beach and municipal dock will be closed as a result of coastal flooding on Friday morning. Plan on using an alternate route.

Additional joint emergency management statements will be issued as weather and road conditions warrant.
