Single-Car Accident on Ridgeway Boulevard Leads to Medevac Response

Manchester resident transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for trauma injuries

Manchester Township’s Police Department reported that a Saturday morning crash left the vehicle’s driver injured, and a utility pole in need of repair.

“On Saturday morning at 8:43 a.m., 911 was alerted that a car had crashed into a pole and the driver was hurt,” said Capt. Lisa Parker of the Manchester police. “The location given was at the intersection of Route 547 and Ridge Road. Manchester officers, Manchester First Aid, Manchester and Ridgeway Fire companies all responded.”

Parker said that when officers arrived at that intersection, they found nothing. By that time, the original 911 caller had hung up and couldn’t be contacted to establish where the crash scene actually was.

“After spending several minutes searching the surrounding area, the location of the crash was found near Ridgeway Boulevard and Aberdeen Lane. When police arrived on scene they found that the driver, Sharon Kurack of Aberdeen Lane in Manchester, 61, was the sole occupant of the 2005 Hyundai Sonata,” said Parker.

The captain reported that although Kurack’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, they were severe enough for a medevac helicopter to be called to transport her to a nearby trauma center. Additionally, Manchester First Aid and Mon-Oc Paramedics stabilized Kurack until the medevac helicopter Mon-Oc 1 was able to transport her to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

“Kurack’s vehicle impacted a JCP&L pole and caused one of the primary wires to become dislodged. JCP&L was contacted and emergency crews responded to repair the damage. Ridgeway Bouelvard was shut down from Route 547 to Route 571 while the damage was being repaired,” Parker explained.

This crash is being investigated by Ptl. Scott Thompson of the Patrol Division.
