Smoke From Wharton State Forest Fire Impacts Lacey, Manchester Area

Smoke reaching as far as New York City, authorities say

A major forest fire continues to burn out of control in Wharton State Forest and smoke from the blaze can be smelled as far away as New York City, police said.

The fire has burned more than 1,500 acres, or about 2 square miles, in a remote area of the forest along Batsto Road, police said.
