A wheelchair-bound woman in the Whiting section of Manchester was hospitalized Sunday after a fire reportedly took place at a residence, police said.

At 1:41 a.m. Sunday, police received a 911 call from a township resident reporting smoke coming from under an Otter Place residence in the Pine Ridge section of Whiting.

Upon the arrival of Manchester Police, Patrolman Joseph Reilly found the residence of to be filled with smoke, police said.

Reilly was able to alert the residents inside and remove a wheelchair-bound woman, Beverly Dickson, and her husband, Larry Dickson, from the residence.

Beverly Dickson was transported to Community Medical Center for further evaluation. Larry Dickson received medical treatment at the scene by Quality Medical Transport but didn't wish to be transported to the hospital, police said.

There is always fires in that senior village of Pine Ridge for years...I put out quite a few in that area myself.
The owner of that village (land) not the owners of the mobile homes never checks those heat tapes on the pipes that are under the units, that is the landlords responsibility its their property...which includes the piping and heat tapes to the mobile units. Really a death trap waiting to happen.

Just to say, those pipes are the main water lines made of poly pipe that are wrapped with heat tape ( used in winter to stop pipes from freeze ups)...and they come out from under the ground and connect a few yards under a mobile unit to the copper plumbing system of the unit.

Glad they are ok, could have been fatal. Big shout out to the Whiting Volunteer Fire Dept!

It is my understanding that the owners of those mobile homes are responsible for those heat tapes as they are only renting the land on which the mobile homes are on and they have to upkeep the homes themselves which includes the heat tapes.

Yes, Suzy is correct. The homeowner (resident) is responsible for the upkeep of the mobile home. John, I've lived in Pine Ridge for 9 years and am not aware of more fires than is the norm. And yes, kudos to our Volunteer Fire Dept.
