Township Man Charged With DWI Following Crash

Man was driving along Horicon Avenue when he lost control and collided with utility pole, police said

A township man faces multiple charges including driving while intoxicated after the vehicle he was operating crashed into a utility pole early Tuesday morning. 

responded to the single car crash on Horicon Avenue near Manor Drive at about 4 a.m. Tuesday and, after an investigation, found that 24-year-old Brian Vassel of Manchester was traveling eastbound on the road before losing control, crossing the opposing traffic lane and colliding with a utility pole, said Capt. Lisa Parker. 

The pole was downed as a result of the crash and Vassel was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of minor injuries, Parker said. Horicon Avenue was shut down from Route 539 to Beckerville Road as the pole was repaired.

Patrolmen Peter Manco and Mathew Juralewicz investigated the crash and, in addition to the DWI charged, issued Vassel with failure to maintain and reckless driving citations, Parker said.
