Woman Stole ID to Get Cable, Indictment Charges

Grand juries hand up indictments

A Toms River woman is accused of stealing power and cable services by assuming a false identity, an Ocean County indictment charges.

Joann L. Caballero, 45, was indicted last week on two counts of identity theft and one count of theft by deception for allegedly using the name of another woman to acquire services from Comcast Cable and Jersey Central Power and Light between January 2008 and April 2011.

Caballero is charged with using the woman's identity in Manchester to acquire more than $500 in power services, the indictment states, while also using the identity in Brick to order cable.

She was released on a summons.

  • Mark R. Sloan of Toms River on burglary and theft charges.

Sloan, 35, is accused of breaking into a Manchester home July 28 and stealing more than $200 worth of jewelry. The grand jury also upheld a charge of dealing in stolen property for allegedly selling the jury the same day in Toms River.

Sloan also broke into another Manchester home that same day and stole more than $500 worth of jewelry, the indictment states. The grand jury upheld a second dealing in stolen property charge for allegedly selling the merchandise in Toms River on July 29.

  • Joseph P. McNulty, 23, of Manchester on drug and weapon charges.

McNulty as arrested July 25 in Long Beach and accused of having heroin in his possession as well as metal knuckles "without any explainable lawful purpose."

He was released on a summons.
