Issues, candidates and polling places for the vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8

Residents in Manchester and Lakehurst will take to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 8, to decide some important issues. 

While residents of both municipalities will have the opportunity to vote for Ocean County freeholder and state senate and general assembly candidates, Lakehurst voters will choose a new mayor and Manchester residents will decide when to hold municipal votes.

While Manchester does not have any open seats in this vote, if they want to move the township's nonpartisan municipal elections from May to November. Those in favor of the move say that it will save the township about $50,000, while those opposed fear that — despite the assurance of nonpartisanship — a November vote could lead to the return of party politics.

if they want to elect Council President Harry Robbins as their new mayor, or if newcomer Leroy Smith Jr. will lead the borough after Mayor Timothy Borsetti leaves his post after one term. Two borough council seats also are up for grabs, with three candidates vying for them. 

Though voters should have received sample ballots and polling locations, a list of Manchester's 40 voting districts is available in the media box of this article, and a sample ballot is available online.

All of Lakehurst residents will cast their votes at the borough's community center on Center Street. A sample ballot is available online.

Voters can also check their polling location by using the New Jersey Department of State web search. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in both municipalities.

This general election also marks the first time that Manchester and Lakehurst residents will after census data led to the redrawing of district lines.
