Lakehurst's Mayor Not Seeking Second Term as Candidate Filings Come Due

Three municipal seats up in Lakehurst; next Manchester election set for 2012

Lakehurst's mayor has not filed to seek another term as petitions for candidacy came due today.

Timothy Borsetti, a Republican, has not filed for his second four-year term as the borough's mayor, according to Clerk Bernadette Dugan.

Running for mayor are Harry Robbins, a Republican and current council president, and Democrat Leroy Smith Jr., a newcomer.

The seats of Republican Councilmembers Sid Hooper and Patricia Ford are also up for election. Hooper, a life-long Lakehurst resident, has not filed to run, while Ford has petitioned her candidacy for another three-year term.

New candidates for council are Robin Busch and Ed Seaman Jr., who is chief of the Lakehurst Fire Department. Both are running as Republicans.

With Robbins running for mayor, this leaves three council seats open.

Independent candidates have until the primary election on Tuesday, June 7, to register with the county, Dugan said.

Manchester will not hold elections until 2012, when the seats of Councilmembers Frederick Trutkoff, Kenneth Vanderziel and Warren Reither become available.

The township holds its municipal elections in May, though it has been proposed that elections move to November as a cost saving measure. The town council last month passed a resolution in support of combining its municipal and school elections in April.

Candidates had until 4 p.m. Monday to file their petition to run. The deadline for voters to declare a change in party affiliation is Monday, April 18, and the deadline to register in order to vote in the primary Tuesday, May 17.
