Council Makes Temporary Professional Appointments
Township is completing transition from a fiscal to state calendar year
Township Council made numerous six-month professional appointments Monday evening, as the township continues its transition to a calendar year operation.
In previous years, reorganization meetings were held on July 1. With the from a July through June fiscal operation to a January through December calendar plan, professional contracts were set to expire in days and required extensions.
"These are all things that we normally do at our reorganization meeting," said Clerk Sabina Skibo.

The appointments are for six months, except for the judge and deputy tax collector, which are year-long appointments, Skibo said. In May, the council approved a resolution seeking solicitations for the professional service contracts.
Changing the cycle from a state fiscal year to a calendar fiscal year "is in the best interest of the taxpayers," according to the ordinance first introduced by the council on April 24.

"Everyone else runs on a calendar fiscal year," said Council President Craig Wallis at the time.
A calendar year cycle also aligns with municipal elections, which , Wallis has said. Terms will begin in January.
The council also approved a temporary six month budget Monday. CFO Diane Lapp said that the township will likely introduce its 2013 budget in August and vote on its adoption in September.
