County Spells Out Roadwork, Bridgework

Spans throughout county, including Manchester, slated for projects

About $3.4 million worth of road paving is planned by Ocean County on 14 miles of streets this summer.

Ocean County’s freeholders are expected to approve getting bids for the work on Wednesday when they meet at 4 p.m. in room 119 of the county Administration Building at 101 Hooper Avenue in Toms River.

Freeholder John P. Kelly said among the roads to be paved are:

  • Sally Ike Road in Brick.
  • Ocean Gate Drive from Route 9 to Chelsea Avenue in Berkeley and Ocean Gate.
  • Grand Central Parkway from the Beachwood line to Forest Hills Parkway in Berkeley Township.

Bridge improvements expected to cost $475,000, paid for with state aid, will be done on these spans:

  • Colonial Drive North and South, Ridgeway Blvd., and 10th Avenue Clubhouse Bridges in Manchester.
  • Wrangle Brook and Davenport Road bridges in Berkeley.
  • Bachelor Street bridge in Toms River.
  • Midstreams and Duck farm bridges in Brick.

Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari said in a county press release that officials are "constantly upgrading our county road network. These resurfacing projects will ensure that our roads remain modern and safe."
