Local Veterans Day Events Scheduled for Sunday

Events in Manchester and Lakehurst will commemorate the day

Officials have announced that Veterans Day celebrations are scheduled in Manchester and Lakehurst for this weekend. Both municipalities will hold services to commemorate the holiday at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11.

Manchester's annual service will be held on the front lawn of the Colonial Drive Municipal Complex at the War Veterans Memorial, according to Mayor Michael Fressola's office.

"Please make every effort to attend this year’s ceremony, veterans and non-veterans alike," his office said.

The service is coordinated by the township's Department of Public Works. Director Stephen Stanziano said that it is still unclear if the recent snowfall may impact the proceedings.

Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served in the Municipal Complex Civic Center in the building's basement. More information on the event is available by contacting Department of Public Works at 732-657-8121, ext. 3310.

Lakehurst's service, which is sponsored by the borough's VFW Post 10061, will be held at Lake Horicon.

"Veterans Day is designated to celebrate and honor the military service of men and women past and present," said Lakehurst Mayor Harry Robbins in a recent column. He added, "remember, 'if you love your freedom, thank a vet.'"
