National Weather Service Warns Of High Fire Danger

The National Weather Service has issued a "red flag" warning for Ocean County, due to high winds and very low humidity.

The warning went into effect at 10 a.m. and will continue until 6 p.m.

High winds between 20 to 25 miles an hour, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour are expected. The danger is heightened due to very low relative humidity levels of 25 percent by midday, the weather service said.

Temperatures today will hover between the mid-20s to the low 30s, the NWS said.

"A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly due to a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels," according to the weather service website.
