Tree Lightings Scheduled for Manchester and Lakehurst

Municipalities will hold holiday celebrations on upcoming Fridays at 7 p.m.

With the holidays quickly approaching, Manchester is set to celebrate the season with tree lighting events this Friday at 7 p.m.

The high school band and dancers from Avenue to Broadway will be among the entertainment at Manchester's annual ceremony held at the steps of the Municipal Complex, said Cassandra Colgate, the Department of Recreation's office manager.

A holiday music medley will be performed by resident and PTA member Sheryl Claus, who will be accompanied by Laurie Barry. Members of Cub Scout Pack 44 will also participate in the proceedings, which conclude with a free photo with Santa and goody bag give away, according to Colgate.

Lakehurst will hold its annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. in front of the borough's Community Center. Once the tree is illuminated, residents and their guests are invited inside for refreshments and a photo with Santa, said Borough Clerk Bernadette Dugan.

The borough's Historical Society Museum, located across the street from the community center, will be open Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Decorations and antique toys will be on display there, Dugan said.

Residents through Lakehurst are invited to participate in the annual holiday lighting contest during the week of Dec. 18-24. 

"The judges will have the difficult task of judging the wonderful display of lights for both businesses and residences," Dugan said.
