District Awaiting Results of Mold Testing at Ridgeway Elementary

After middle school mold problem last year, district being more proactive with testing

Recent testing at Ridgeway Elementary School has turned up signs of mold, and district officials are taking steps to ensure that the problem does not become “serious.”

After last year’s delayed opening of Manchester Township Middle School due to a significant mold problem, the district has been more proactive with its mold testing, Superintendent of Schools David Trethaway writes on his district blog.

“During one of these inspections in the Ridgeway School, we noticed that there are several isolated areas where mold has begun to be present,” he said. “While this condition is only noticeable in a few areas, we have made arrangements to test the entire school.”

While some portions of the building are still open and cleared for use, as a precaution the Jump Start Program has been moved to Manchester Township Elementary School, according to Trethaway.

“Students and staff will continue at that location until every area in [Ridgeway Elementary School] has been tested and proven to be safe. Fortunately, this situation was noticed quickly,” the superintendent said.

Trethaway promised to keep the public advised as to the mold test results and what steps the district will take to fix the problem.

“I want to assure you that we are taking every step to be proactive and to make sure that this situation does not become serious,” he said.
