Manchester Marching Hawks 2nd at Jackson Memorial

It was the band's final tuneup for the state championships next week.

Make it another top-2 finish for the Manchester Township Marching Hawks.

A nearly five-point jump over last week’s score wasn’t quite enough to win it all, but the Hawks turned in their top score of the season to earn second place at Jackson Memorial Saturday.

Facing five other schools in Group 1A, Manchester put up a score of 76.7, finishing just behind Burlington County’s Riverside High School.

The band also took home the award for Best Equipment Crew.

Along with a performance at the All-Shore Festival of Bands at Jackson Liberty earlier in the week, it was the final tuneup for the Hawks ahead of next week’s crowded field at the New Jersey state championship competition at Rutgers University, where 14 bands are currently slated to take the field in Group 1A.

Manchester is set to step off at 10:12 a.m. Sunday in that competition, the third-to-last band in the group, with only Riverside and Weehawken—the two bands Manchester has finished second to so far this season—going later.
