Manchester Schools Open Monday

Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday

Manchester schools will reopen on Monday, the district announced.

Schools were closed all last week after most buildings lost power after Hurricane Sandy struck. The buildings appear to be in good condition, Superintendent of Schools David Trethaway has said.

The decision to reopen schools was met with mixed opinion on the district's Facebook page. Some said that it is good for children to return to a routine, while others said that downed power lines in the township could be a safety issue.

Schools will close on Thursday and Friday, the days scheduled for the New Jersey Education Association convention which has since been canceled.

Lakehurst educators announced that school in the borough will be closed until Monday, Nov. 12.

If you are going to open sooo soon then you should also remain open on Thursday and Friday.............Everyone has plans but what good is a plan that is not flexiable...Gov Christy asked you to be open for those days so why not......let us...Manchester....not be different and try to comply.......

Besides all the days closed already and the holidays coming and whatever snow storms coming. No doubt this will be a very short school year for children to learn in Manchester!

No power in many houses in Manchester still. Expect these children to go to school is crazy. Coming home at 530 with no lights in the areas is unsafe. I am all for school, but we still have many trees down in streets. How are the children to be safe. Isn't safety suppose to be our number one concern for children???? Have school Wed to Fri! Get a chance to make it safe. l

I agree no school till at least wed. But you cant expect the teachers to work over Disney Week, I mean teachers convention that was canceled. I m sure many of them have been affected as well, so close them this week or send them all week

How do you expect kids to be at school tomorrow when some like mine still have no power and no water it is not fair and not right

I AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT THEY HAVE BEEN OUT FOR A WEEK ALREADY. ONLY 3 DAYS BUILT INTO SCHOOL YEAR FOR SNOW. THEY COULD MAKE UP 2 OF THOSE DAYS.

We still have no power in my area of pine lake park. My children will not attend school until power is back on.

Article said..Manchester schools are open Monday, it never said your children have to be there. If no power on yet, its up to then parents if their children go or stay home. Have to know that 75% of Manchester has power on and 25% still without power. Up to the parents!

I guess I am assuming that the bus drivers got an opportunity to access and assess their routes. I am also assuming that any cafeteria food that was in schools without power was attended to and re-ordered. I am assuming that parents will be with their middle schooler if indeed they want to trick or treat after they get home at 5:30-6:00. But I tend to assume the common sense of many scenarios, and you know what they say about "assume..."

Go to Manchester schools website and read what YOUR board members said before jumping to conclusions.

COMPLAINING ABOUT THE KIDS GOING BACK AND LEARN, OR YOU DON'T WANT THEM OUT THERE BECAUSE OF NO POWER OR DOWN WIRES. BUT YOU WILL LET THEM GO TRICK OR TREATING. YOU DON'T MAKE SENSE TO ME
