Rutgers President Says Condoleeza Rice Will Speak

Many people in the Rutgers community were upset over the selection of Rice to speak at the University's 2014 commencement because of her defense of the Iraq war.

Rutgers President Robert Barchi said former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will deliver the 2014 Rutgers University-New Brunswick commencement address despite the campus's negative reaction.

Barchi acknowledged that the university has "even heard from high school students who have written to say that they would withdraw their Rutgers applications if we rescind-or fail to rescind-our invitation to her."

"These are the kinds of exchanges that every great university welcomes," he said, addressing faculty members and students. "Like all vibrant intellectual communities, Rutgers can thrive only when it vigorously defends the free exchange of ideas in an environment of civil discourse."

He said that, whatever their personal views or political views about the commencement speaker," there can be no doubt that Condoleezza Rice is one of the most influential intellectual and political figures of the last 50 years."

The clutching, clawing, grabbing at straws to redirect the issue of Ms. Rice's commencement address is laughable. Tax rate under President Eisenhower? Absurdly irrelevant. I can imagine Joe R next to me in a hole while the gas wafts in our direction, peeing in his pants rather than summoning the courage to plunge that atropine syrette into his thigh.

Joe R. still believes that the failed Abbott District schools don't get enough of our hard-earned money in order to enable them to fail even more.

Hey Joe-90% tax rate existed with a number of signifigant loopholes that resulted in a nominal tax rate in the mid 40s for the highest earners...stop getting your talking points from MSNBC and think for yourself. and even if you took every dollar from the top 10% of earners in this nation, we would still have a deficit...spending is the issue, not revenue....do you get that fact or does your hatred for the wealthy cloud your ability to digest reality...

Hey SH, in the 1950s, the top marginal tax rate was 91% and the effective tax rate was about 51% after the loopholes. Oh, so we don't have loopholes today??!? Ha, ha, ha. The current top marginal tax rate is 39.6% but that's before all the loopholes. The effective tax rate is even lower than 39.6%. JFK eliminated many of the loopholes and reduced the top marginal tax rate to 74%. That works for me.

Joe-I will agree to raise the marginal tax rate to 50%...what programs other than defense do you propose to cut? Exactly none is probably your answer...cutting defense and raising taxes does not get us to a balanced budget...we need to cut spending...you socialists never seem to get that point...and moreover, how about EVERYONE has some skin in the game and has to pay some income tax.... you will never want to cut spending on social programs because then how will you bribe low information voters to win elections?
