Students Go High-Tech to Celebrate MLK Day

Ridgeway Elementary School 5th graders use technology to learn about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On January 21, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, fifth graders at Ridgeway Elementary School viewed the educational website Brainpop and, through the use of the interactive Promethean Board and Epson Brite, learned all about Dr. Martin Luther King’s life and the impact he had on society.

The students completed a KWL chart (what you Know, what you Want to know, and what you have Learned about a research topic), defined related vocabulary, summarized significant events in MLK’s life, and placed the events in chronological order.

As a follow up Character Development/Health Lesson, students studied The Civil Rights Movement and learned about empathy through their participation in various related activities.
