Manchester Athletes Set to Play in Boys and Girls Senior Basketball All-Star Games

Manchester's Nate Nickens and Gabrielle Valmon will compete at Brookdale Community College on Friday

While every year the annual Shore Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Games mark the end of some brilliant careers, this season’s edition of the boys and girls games especially seems like the end of an era.

It also will mark the dawning of some up-and-coming high school careers as the coaches have added boys and girls Futures Games this season featuring top eighth-grade talent from Monmouth and Ocean counties. The games have also moved to a top venue, as they will be held on Friday at the newly refurbished Collins Arena at Brookdale Community College.

The girls futures game is at 4 p.m., followed by the boys futures game at 5 p.m., then the girls senior all-star game at 6 p.m. and the boys senior game to cap the night at 8 p.m.

The girls game will feature no less than 16 Division I players, a staggering amount that is believed to be a single-season record for the Shore Conference. Luminaries like the Neptune trio of Rutgers-bound guards Syessence Davis and Shakena Richardson as well as Pittsburgh-bound center Chyna Golden will be in the game along with four seniors from the vaunted St. John Vianney squad and five from Rumson-Fair Haven.

The game is also a chance to see some talented players like Manchester’s Gabrielle Valmon, Brick Memorial’s Jackie Caravella and Howell’s Lauren Kolacki who were overshadowed by the perennial Shore powers.

The boys side will have plenty of star power as well as talents like Point Beach’s Jarelle Reischel, a Rice University recruit and the Garnet Gulls’ all-time leading scorer, will conclude his career along with the likes of Christian Brothers Academy’s Matt McMullen, a Brick resident and a Colgate recruit, and Monsignor Donovan’s Sean Grennan, a Seton Hall recruit.

Also, just like the girls side, the game will give fans a chance to get a glimpse at other talents who maybe didn’t get as much of the spotlight this season, such as high-scoring Shore Regional point guard Zack Hoffman, Long Branch forward Nate Bolden, Wall 1,000-point scorer Kyle Janeczek, and Pinelands standout Jake Hartman.

There also will be a 3-point shooting contest at halftime of both of the senior games, and the presentation of the Arthur W. Harmon Jr. Most Valuable Player Awards following each game.

Below are the rosters with all of the players and coaches participating in each game:
