Lakehurst Fishing Derby Winners Announced

Mayor Harry Robbins announced winners of summer contest

The winners of Lakehurst's 2012 Summer Fishing Derby, a contest open to borough residents age 17 and younger that kicked off in June, have been announced. 

Mayor Harry Robbins announced the winners and offered a "special thanks" to the three month long event's organizer, Sid Hooper. 

"I would also like to thank Dr. [Brian] Klohn for donating all the prizes that were awarded and Dick’s Sporting Goods for their very generous discount on the top notch fishing poles and reels they even put line on them for Sid," Robbins said in a recent column submitted to Manchester Patch.

In no particular order, the winners for June are: Christopher Burton, Christopher Matsil, Nicholas Oliver and Matt Ford.

July’s winners are: Christopher Matsil, Jay Laird lll, William Sloan, Alyssa Sloan and Alfred Sloan Jr.

The August winners are: Jay Laird lll, Fallon Burton, Ken Mount and William Sloan.

"Congratulations to all our winners," Robbins said. "Fishing is a great hobby for children to learn. Remember, 'Give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish; you feed him for a lifetime.'"
